Highlighting the Fight Against Knife Crime in Northampton
This April, Safe and Secure Security is proud to have partnered with C2C Social Action in support of the iconic Knife Angel, an anti-knife crime sculpture symbolising hope, remembrance, and a call to action.
This impressive artwork, crafted from over 100,000 knives collected during police amnesties or seized in criminal investigations, stands as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of knife crime. The Knife Angel has been touring the UK to raise awareness and spark conversation around the urgent need for action against violence.
“A Monument for Change”: The Knife Angel’s Northampton Stay
The Knife Angel, standing at an awe-inspiring 27 feet (8.2 meters) tall, was created by artist Alfie Bradley in collaboration with the British Ironworks Centre. Since its completion in 2018, it has traveled across the UK, making stops in cities and towns affected by knife crime to educate communities, honour victims, and promote anti-violence initiatives.
During its two-week stay in Northampton Town Centre, the statue has become a powerful focal point for reflection and education. Following its time here, it will move on to Corby, continuing its mission to spread awareness and drive change.
Supporting Local Initiatives: A Message from C2C Social Action
Angie from C2C Social Action expressed her “sincere thanks” to Safe and Secure Security for their commitment to ensuring the event runs smoothly and remains a safe space for visitors. C2C Social Action plays a vital role in supporting victims of crime and advocating for a safer community in Northampton.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Safe and Secure Security for their invaluable support during this event,” Angie remarked. “Their presence has helped create a secure environment where the community can come together, learn, and reflect on the impact of knife crime.”
The Knife Angel: A Symbol of Hope and Awareness
The creation of the Knife Angel involved the collection of knives from across the UK, with over 200 knife banks set up for the public to safely surrender their weapons. A significant portion of the knives arrived in evidence tubes, a stark reminder of their violent past. Some even arrived with traces of bodily fluids, underscoring the deadly consequences of knife violence.
The sculpture’s intricate design transforms these dangerous weapons into a breathtaking yet haunting work of art, serving as a symbol of both tragedy and hope.
